No matter where you are, the best way to meet people is being open to it. Try to be approachable, make eye contact and small talk when the opportunity arises, be yourself and, when in doubt, always smile!

College is all change: new friends, new ways of learning, new relationships and new financial challenges all beckon.

The first thing to do is to check out the college supports system and see what services they have to offer students.

Help and support are available in all colleges but you must know to seek the help that you need.

An obvious way to connect with others is to attend all lectures, study sessions and tutorials.

One of the best ways to make friends is to make the most of clubs and societies.

Student newspapers, and unions are also a big part of student life.

A basic goal is to join something with people who have common interests.

Go to sports games and other campus events. Join in on things when invited, like hanging out with new groups of people because even if you don’t think you’ll fit in with them, you never know until you try.

Volunteering and work experience opportunities are valuable ways of meeting new people and making friends.

Through all these activities, you don’t just meet new people, you develop new interests and set your CV apart.

Getting involved in a college club is a way of ensuring that you grow as a person.
