There is still time to apply for a grant

Aoife Walsh

The SUSI grant is a means- tested financial support for those entering higher and further education. SUSI is still accepting applications and it is essential to apply as soon as possible.

Applicants do not need to know whether they will enter a further or higher education course to apply. It is only necessary to indicate which course they are likely to enter.

Applicants should first visit the eligibility reckoner on, where they will be asked to provide certain information and which will give an indication of whether or not they are likely to qualify.

If the eligibility reckoner indicates that an applicant may qualify, the next step is go to or and follow instructions.

Applicants will need to have their PPS number and, as they will be asked questions in relation to income and benefits, it may be helpful to have a parent present when completing the form.

Once the online application is complete, SUSI will notify applicants of any documentation they will be required to submit. Once submitted, applications can be tracked online.

Where grants are awarded, the first payment to students in third-level colleges will be September 23, while for those on a PLC course, it will be October 21. PLC grant-holders should note that they must pay their course fees from their grant.
