Time the barrier to building a strong showcase

Leaving Cert students may have the building blocks to a successful future - if they didn't stumble over some tough questions in their construction exam.

According to Aidan Brogan, a teacher at Davitt College in Castlebar, Co Mayo, the way some questions were "tweaked" may have seen some students fall down.

"Compared to other years there seemed to be a few tweaks in terms of how the information was presented," said Mr Brogan, a Teachers Union of Ireland representative.

"The answers were on a par with other years but it's how the questions were asked, and some students may have been put off due to the wording.

"There was nothing that wasn't on the curriculum but this is the first time I've seen that in certain questions - the way they were asked was completely different to usual."

For students who wanted to "showcase their knowledge" time was also a barrier, Mr Brogan felt.
