A LUCKY leaving cert student got to his exam hall with just three minutes to spare thanks to a quick-thinking taxi driver.

Limerick student Ian Fitzhenry (17) missed his bus yesterday morning, and realising he would be late rang a taxi to get him to school.

However as the taxi attempted to make its way though rush hour traffic, it became apparent Ian could not make it in on time.

The quick-thinking taxi driver spotted a garda car in his rear-view mirror, and hailed it down to explain the student’s plight.

The garda car then put on its lights and escorted the taxi to the school.
