Leaving Cert Biology: Teachers concerned about quality of images used in 'fair' papers
Leaving Cert biology papers were well received but there was criticism of the quality of images used to illustrate some questions.
Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI) subject representative Lily Cronin said higher level was a "fair and friendly paper for most students", although "it was a long paper to trawl through".
Ms Cronin, of Mercy Mounthawk School Tralee, Co Kerry, said the short questions reflected the syllabus, but she thought the photo used in Q4, about plant cells undergoing different stages of mitosis, was "poor".
Luke Saunders, of the Studyclix.ie website, also picked up on this, as well as the sketch used for a similar question at ordinary level.
Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) education officer David Duffy described the higher level paper as "nice, fair" and said that students would have been happy to have seen questions on ecology, genetics and photosynthesis.
Similarly, he said the ordinary Level was "very fair, with plenty for all students to attempt".
