Students seemed generally happy with the Junior Cert higher-level technical graphics paper, although Part B was "challenging in detail, as is usually the case", according to ASTI subject representative Eoin Ó hAodha.

Mr Ó hAodha, of Meánscoil Gharman, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, said time can be an issue in this exam and it was for some yesterday, although others were "happy enough".

He said Part A of the ordinary-level paper seemed fair while Part B included two nice questions, one to draw a Darth Vader helmet and another to draw a tow truck.

In the afternoon's higher-level materials technology (wood) paper, ASTI subject representative Patrick Curley, of Loreto Community School Milford, Co Donegal, detected more of a nod towards the "learning by doing" of the new Junior Cycle "in a very balanced paper".
