JC Home Economics: Some comfort for students of Home Economics
A very topical, contemporary and accessible paper that was well received by students. That is how teacher Maura McCaul summed up Junior Certificate Home Economics Higher Level.
Ms McCaul, of Loreto College, St Stephen's Green, Dublin and the Association of Secondary Teachers' Ireland (ASTI), noted that the Section B, Question One, was on nutrition. She said while there was always a question on nutrition, normally it is based on one food, but this year, candidates were asked for a comparison of the nutritional information of two convenience sauces, stir-in and dried, which gave them a little more work to do.
She said the ordinary level paper was also accessible, and offered scope for creativity on the part of students, such as the question on interior design of a family room.
