College place offers being snapped up by students
College places were snapped up yesterday with about half of the record 52,374 CAO round one offers accepted by 5pm.
Those who received an offer have until next Monday to decide whether to accept it, before the CAO issues the second round on Thursday, August 31.
Meanwhile, college courses on the CAO that have vacancies because they have not attracted sufficient numbers of qualified applicants are to be advertised on the CAO website from noon today.
Yesterday was another busy day on the National Parents Council post primary helpline. Members of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors handled about 700 calls, and these included about 1,500 separate queries.
The freephone helpline - 1800 265 165 - sponsored by the Irish Independent, the Department of Education and Eir, opens again today from 10am to 7pm and tomorrow, from 10am to 1pm.
