Eamon Gilmore backs gay marriage but insists it's only Labour's view
TANAISTE Eamon Gilmore says he is only speaking for the Labour Party – not the Government – when he supports gay marriage.
Mr Gilmore once again reiterated his stance in favour of recognising gay marriage.
“I believe gay marriage is an issue whose time has come,” he said.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny has repeatedly refused to back Mr Gilmore’s position, saying he speaks for the Government.
But the Labour Party leader said he was reflecting the view of his own party and not the coalition.
The Government’s position is the question of gay marriage will be examined by the Constitutional Convention.
