Four work colleagues from Dublin are now half a million euro richer after their syndicate scooped €2 million from the National Lotto.

The winners, who wish to remain private, split the jackpot evenly after they collected their winnings from the National Lottery offices on Friday morning.

The delighted workers had to wait more than a month to claim their winnings because the member of their syndicate who bought the ticket was away on holidays.

“I was on holiday in April and didn’t realise we’d won until I got back,” said one of the happy winners.

“My first reaction when I checked the account was that it must be a mistake. I sent one of the others a screenshot of the ticket and called him and said, check your messages – you won’t believe this!”

The remaining two members of the syndicate were later contacted once the pair had confirmed they had a winning ticket.

“I’m soon to become a dad and I was about to get a loan for an extension on the house and a new car.  Now I don’t need to.  This is just the best,” said another winner, talking about how perfect the timing of the win was.

The winning ticket was purchase online from the  National Lottery’s website (www.lottery.ie) on April 8.

On Saturday, the Lotto jackpot is an estimated €6 million.
