Dublin Rape Crisis Centre receives over €25k in donations following Belfast trial

Jordan Campbell, a representative of the DRCC told Independent.ie that over 16,000 donations have been made since Wednesday afternoon.

Ms Campbell said the centre received an influx of activity on Twitter following the trial decision, followed by a massive increase in donations.

News relating to such topics as the Belfast Rape Trial can be “triggering” for those who have experienced sexual assault or know someone close to them who has, said Ms Campbell.

“We are conscious that there has been a lot of upset about the verdict where people are feeling upset about what happened and just wanted to talk, so that’s been our focus is promoting our help line and services,” said the DRCC representative.

Ms Campbell said the immense amount of support is “truly unprecedented” and has been a great way to promote the services the centre offers.

“A lot of people just don’t know where to go after something happens, or a lot of people aren’t sure about how the way they are reacting is normal, or where they can go for help, so our helpline, it’s not directive, it’s confidential, it’s listening support and we can tell people what their options are,” said Ms Campbell.
