A 28-year-old man has been shot in a parked car by a gunman who hid waiting for him in bushes.

The victim of the shooting in Tallaght, Dublin, was named locally last night as Darren McGarry, who is originally from Tymon Road North in the town.

He was driven to hospital after he was shot once in the arm. His injuries were not life-threatening.

It is understood that Mr McGarry had recently moved to the area where the shooting incident took place.

Mr McGarry was shot outside the house where it is believed he was staying, at The Grove, Kingswood Heights.

He was approached at about 6.30pm by a gunman who shot him in the arm with what is believed to be a 9mm pistol.

A number of shots were fired but the victim was hit just once.

The gunman, who gardaí suspect hid waiting for Mr McGarry, then fled on foot and may have been caught on CCTV.

Mr McGarry was last night due to have surgery in Tallaght Hospital after he arrived with the bullet still in his arm.
