Driver dies at the scene after his van hits tree

A VAN driver was killed after his vehicle crashed into a tree in north Co Dublin last night.

The crash happened at Baldwinstown Cross in Garristown around 9.30pm.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was believed to be aged in his late 20s or early 30s. Gardai sealed off the road to conduct an investigation into the fatal crash.

Meanwhile, a woman in her seventies was fatally injured as she crossed the road in Co Longford.

Bridie O'Hara (74), who was living in the Granard area of north Longford, died in the road traffic accident, which occurred over the weekend.

The accident occurred on the N4 at Lisnagrish, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, on Sunday at around 7.45pm.

Gardai said that the pedestrian was fatally injured as she crossed the road.
