Meanwhile, checkpoints have been increasing in the lead up to Christmas.
As part of a Christmas enforcement campaign, gardaí stopped eight drivers in the space of four hours for using mobile phones while driving.
The checkpoint was carried out near the Red Cow Hotel in Dublin.
Gardaí are urging motorists not to use their phones while driving.
Checkpoints will be prevalent over the festive period as gardaí clamp down on drink driving.
