Donors' €700k helps charity stay in black
TWO anonymous donors gifting the Dublin Simon Community a combined €700,000 in two wills last year prevented the organisation from going into the red in 2012.
The charity confirmed that last year it received one cash bequest totalling over €550,000 and a second totalling €150,000.
The bequests formed a large part of €1.2m the charity received in wills last year – an increase of €174,000 on the €1.056m received in wills in 2011.
The windfall contributed to it recording a surplus of €691,538 in 2012, compared with a surplus of €775,287 in 2011.
Last year, nearly 3,000 people accessed Dublin Simon's services across Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow.
DSC last year achieved a 27pc increase in fundraising income, increasing from €5.4m to €6m.
