IRELAND is to get an online divorce service following the signing by an Irish firm of a software-licensing agreement with, a British-based company offering quick online divorces.

The British firm is the market leader in the UK and processes 40 cases each day. The patented software allows users to key in their divorce application details by questionnaire.

It is currently being tweaked to fit the Irish legal system and will soon allow divorcing and separating couples to conduct their proceedings online, aside from a final court visit.

While a number of DIY divorce-assistance companies have sprung up in Ireland in recent years, the new service by is believed to be the first time that a divorce could be processed online in both contested and uncontested cases, right up to the required court appearance.

A DIY divorce or judicial separation will cost €599. A managed divorce will is €999.

Using this online service, which does not involve solicitors and barristers, applicants seldom meet the professionals involved in processing their cases and don't tend to appear in court. However in Ireland, at least two court visits are usually required.
