A mother delivered a baby in the car park of a Dublin branch of Woodie's DIY with the help of fire and ambulance crews.

The woman was being brought to hospital to give birth to the baby yesterday when it became urgent to stop the car.

It appeared the baby was in too much of a hurry to wait for a hospital delivery.

The car was brought to a halt in the car park of Woodie's on the Malahide Road in Coolock at 6pm.

An emergency call was made for assistance.

A fire engine crew and an ambulance crew from Kilbarrack Fire Station arrived on the scene and assisted the woman.

A baby boy was born successfully in the car park and then he was taken with his mother by ambulance to hospital.

The brigade crews were delighted with the happy outcome.

A Dublin Fire Brigade spokesman declared last night: "Mum does the work. We just assist."
