Divers search river as family fear the worst

GARDA dive teams have entered the Avoca river in the search of a man who is a missing week.

Father-of-one John Roche (40), from Arklow, Co Wicklow, left his home on Griffith Street last Thursday, December 20, at 2.30pm and was last seen shortly after 4.20pm at the junction between Main Street and the bridge.

It is understood he then walked down the north quay past the Bridgewater centre.

His family told the Irish Independent that they are "increasingly worried" for his safety.
