THE Fianna Fail exodus continued unabated last night as another TD announced his retirement, with a Labour TD also stepping down at the General Election.
Sligo-North Leitrim Independent Fianna Fail TD Dr Jimmy Devins's announcement was expected but Waterford TD Brian O'Shea's decision means Labour has to reconsider its plans in his constituency.
Dr Devins yesterday said the removal of breast cancer services from Sligo General Hospital, the reason why he resigned the Fianna Fail whip in August 2009, was one of main factors for his retirement.
Dr Devins is the 13th Fianna Fail TD to announce he will not be contesting the election.
Waterford Labour TD Brian O'Shea also announced his decision not to contest the election, throwing Labour's election plans in the constituency into disarray.
Mr O'Shea had already been selected as a candidate, and party headquarters will now have to decide between holding another convention and appointing a new candidate.
