PROPERTY tycoon Kevin McGeever – who has claimed he was kidnapped and held for ransom for eight months – has been released after questioning by Gardai.

Mr McGeever was arrested on Thursday afternoon for questioning on suspicion of wasting garda time.

The 68-year-old left Gort Garda Station near his Co Galway home just after 9pm.

He was held in the same station where his partner Siobhan O’Callaghan reported him missing in June last year, a month after he disappeared.

Mr McGeever was found walking on a road in Co Leitrim in January in an emaciated state with long hair and finger nails, claiming he had been held by unknown captors and starved for months.

The property investor who did deals on apartments in Dubai and elsewhere has twice been sought by international police forces in connection with fraud investigations.

Detained under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act, he has been released without charge and a file has been sent to the DPP.
