Detective who led Raonaid probe dies

THE detective who led the investigation into the murder of schoolgirl Raonaid Murray, pictured, 14 years ago has died.

Retired Detective Inspector Eamon O'Reilly passed away at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin following a short illness.

Mr O'Reilly, who retired in 2011 after 39 years in the force, said he never gave up hope that Raonaid's killer would be brought to justice.

The 17-year-old was stabbed to death on the street close to her home in Glenageary, Dublin, in September 1999.
