Homeowners who want a beautiful house do not have to break the bank, celebrity architect Dermot Bannon told a packed House 2016 yesterday.

Thousands have flocked to the Independent News and Media interior design event - running at Dublin's RDS - to pick up some inspiration from over 150 exhibitors.

Speaking at the Miele Inspiration Stage, the Room to Improve star said: "You don't have to spend a fortune.

"If you're designing it for yourself you can you use any material you want and you can piece them together in any way you want. I think if you can get yourself dressed in the morning you can put together a house."

House 2016 continues at the RDS today from 10am to 5pm. Tickets are €10 at the door and under-12s go free when accompanied by an adult.
