Department urges Irish tourists to avoid all demonstrations
TOURISTS and business people travelling from Ireland to Turkey have been urged to avoid all demonstrations, even peaceful ones, due to the widespread eruption of violent protests in the country.
The Department of Foreign Affairs issued a statement, reminding Irish visitors to the country that they should stay away from all areas where such outbreaks of violence are a possibility.
Thousands have joined anti-government rallies across Turkey since Friday. However, tourist areas have remained largely peaceful.
According to a warning on the Department of Foreign Affairs website: "As it remains possible that further demonstrations could turn violent, we advise Irish citizens to exercise caution and to avoid all demonstrations, including peaceful demonstrations".
