Department pays €32.5m to consulting firm
One Dublin-based business consulting firm has enjoyed a €32.48m contract bonanza from the Department of Social Protection over the past five years, new figures show.
The Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, has confirmed that this year alone the Irish arm of the Dutch-headquartered BearingPoint has secured €8.7m in fees after winning four separate IT contracts since January of this year.
The department yesterday said that BearingPoint Ireland Ltd was paid a further €7.8m in 2011; €8.1m in 2010 and €7.8m in 2009 in relation to 13 contracts across the three years.
In a written Dail response to Willie O'Dea TD, Ms Burton said: "The Department is committed to achieving value for money in the procurement of supplies and services essential to support its work."
