Demand for college places growing
DEMAND for a college place in the autumn is continuing to grow, but is still behind last year's record numbers.
Almost 76,000 school-leavers, and others, have applied for a course, up from 71,466 in February.
However, the figure of 75,913 applications is down from 77,111 in May 2010.
Third-level colleges are expected to offer about 46,000-47,000 places in September.
While February is the main deadline, there is limited provision for late applications. The over-23s, who are regarded as mature students, account for much of the late interest.
