Defence Forces daredevils flying high for airshow

Ken Sweeney Entertainment Editor

The forecast is good -- so expect all manner of man and machine over Bray tomorrow as the annual Air Spectacular takes place.

More than 80,000 spectators will be thrilled by planes trailing smoke as they execute a range of technically demanding manoeuvres.

Opening the show will be a beach parachute jump by the Black Knights Defence Forces Parachute Team.

The team were rehearsing yesterday with a jump over the Co Wicklow town.

"You feel a little like a rock star coming down with 80,000 people looking up at you, but it's the public who make the event, not us," Captain James Cahill said.

There will also be aerobatic displays from The Blades, a group of UK civilian pilots. A fly-past by a retro-painted Aer Lingus A320 is among other attractions. The free airshow, part of Bray Summerfest, starts at 3:15pm tomorrow with some traffic restrictions.
