A BROTHER of former presidential candidate and Eurovision winner Dana Rosemary Scallon has been charged with three counts of child molestation, the Irish Independent can reveal.

John Brown, who was part of Mrs Scallon's campaign team, was charged at a London police station yesterday.

It's understood the charges relate to allegations made to police in the English capital following the conclusion of the 2011 election campaign.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman told the Irish Independent: "John Brown of Lilly Hill Road, Bracknell, Berkshire, was charged on May 22 with three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16.

"He has been bailed to appear at Hendon Magistrates' Court on June 7.

"The charges relate to two alleged victims."

Mr Brown, who is 59, was first arrested by specially trained police officers from the Child Abuse Investigation Team in June last year.

He was bailed while a police investigation was completed and a file was sent to England's Crown Prosecution Service.

The charges relate to allegations made by a 45-year-old woman to London police in October 2011.

In September last year, police received a further complaint from a 52-year-old woman. Mr Brown is well-known in both building and music circles here in Ireland and in America and Britain.

He has a holiday home at Urris, on Donegal's Inishowen peninsula, where he regularly stays with his sister Mrs Scallon.

He was involved in several developments in Co Donegal during the boom.

His sister Dana, originally from Derry, received less than 3pc of the vote in the presidential campaign.
