Dublin Fingal TD Clare Daly said she was among people wrongly summonsed to court because of Garda mistakes.
She said it occurred after the time period during which an audit found 14,700 wrongful convictions took place. "My own direct personal experience belies the narrative that you put forward which is that the problems in the system have been corrected," Ms Daly said.
Commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan offered Ms Daly an opportunity to have her individual case looked at by management and said it was important for any evidence of systems not working to be brought to gardaí's attention.
However, Ms Daly said the issue was not about her but about the wider controversy surrounding the false figures.
During tense exchanges, Ms Daly accused Ms O'Sullivan of failing to take responsibility.
The Commissioner rejected the assertion.
"I have never said I will not take responsibility for this," she said.
"From the time that I became aware in 2014 that an issue had been raised . . . I took responsibility for making sure that instructions were issued to address the issues that were contained in the correspondence."
