TAX cheat Mick Wallace will not be investigated by a Dail watchdog.

The Dail committee of members’ interests has decided it doesn’t have the power to investigate Mr Wallace’s tax affairs.

The committee is now expected to refer the matter back to the Dail.

The committee is expected to elaborate on its decision later.

Mr Wallace had annoyed members of the committee over recent weeks by refusing to reveal key details about his company’s €2.1m tax settlement.

The committee was seeking details on exactly when the settlement was reached with the Revenue Commissioners to establish if it crossed over with his time as a TD.

But Mr Wallace had until last week declined to supply the exact date when the settlement with the Revenue was reached for the deliberate non-payment of VAT on apartment sales by his construction company M&J Wallace.
