A mountain biker has escaped serious injury when he encountered a dangerous stretch of barbed wire in his path.

The biker was using the mountain bike trails on Downs Hill, Willow Grove, near Delgany in Co Wicklow two weeks ago when he encountered the "booby trap".

The Greystones cyclist said: “Absolutely raging at some evil b*****d who decided to booby trap some local mountain bike trails on DownsHill. (Willow Grove)”

“It started with a few sticks etc... And has escalated to a point where today I narrowly missed barbed wire strung across the track at neck height at a jump.”

“If anyone knows anything please report it to the Gardai, (or let me know) as this person is going to really hurt someone,” he said.

Meanwhile, a mountain biker in the UK was injured by a similar barricade last year.

He sustained cuts above his eye, and on his face and neck when he cycled headlong into the barbed wire which was at face height on a trail in Guisborough forest near Middlesbrough.
