Cyclist suffers serious head injuries in crash

A WOMAN cyclist was in a serious condition in hospital last night after sustaining serious head injuries in a collision involving three cars.

The accident happened shortly after 1pm on the Merrion Road, between Ailesbury Road and Nutley Lane in Dublin. No one else was injured and all of the drivers involved remained at the scene.

The woman was taken to St Vincent's Hospital.

The Merrion road was closed to traffic until 5.45pm while forensic experts attended the scene.

An investigation into the incident is continuing and witnesses are asked to contact Donnybrook garda station on 01 6669200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1 800 666 111, or any garda station.

Meanwhile, a man was in garda custody last night following a dramatic high-speed pursuit across Limerick city.

The man, who is aged in his 40s, was detained at Henry Street garda station on suspicion of drink driving after gardai intercepted his vehicle.

The drama unfolded just before 5pm in the busy William Street area of the city centre during rush hour.

"I just saw the yellow car and the guards were coming after him and when the car crashed it took six of them to arrest him," said Tim Hourigan, who witnessed the drama.
