Cyclist fatally injured after being struck by car

A MAN in his 70s has died after his bike was involved in a collision with a car.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision in Mullingar , Co. Westmeath this afternoon at around 3.45pm.

The collision occurred on the N52 , around 6km north of Mullingar.

The man in his 70s was pronounced dead at the scene.The body of the deceased was removed to Midlands Regional Hospital with a post mortem examination expected to take place tomorrow in Tullamore hospital.

The driver of the car (a female in her 70's) was uninjured.

The scene of the collision is being examined by Garda forensic collision investigators and the road will remain closed overnight.
