Cyclist dies after collision with road sweeper

A male cyclist has died following a collision with a council road sweeping truck in south Dublin.

The incident, which occurred at around 1.30pm yesterday at White Church Road in Rathfarnham, marked the 13th cyclist-related death this year.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is understood the man was 25.

The driver of the truck was not injured and diversions were immediately put in place on the road.

Two fire engines, two ambulances and an advanced paramedic attended the scene.

Gardaí have appealed to any witnesses to contact Rathfarnham garda station.

Separately, a woman in her 90s was killed in road traffic collision in Co Roscommon.

The woman was found in a car which had crashed into a ditch between Castleplunket and Ballintubber.

There was no other vehicle involved in the crash.

Her body was taken to University College Hospital Galway, where a post mortem examination will take place.
