Customs seize cigarette haul

CONTRABAND cigarettes worth more than €11,000 were seized at Dublin Airport yesterday.

Customs officers following through on an intelligence-led operation seized 26,540 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of €11,500.

A man and woman from Lithuania and a Romanian woman, all in their 20s, were arrested after they were stopped and searched on a flight from Zurich.

The suspects are alleged to be part of an Eastern European cigarette-smuggling gang. They were released without charge but a file has been prepared for the DPP.
