Customer stabbed during armed robbery in ‘serious condition’

Man was injured after two raiders burst into premises and threatened staff and customers

A customer who was stabbed during an armed robbery in a Waterford filling station is in a serious condition in hospital this morning.

The man was injured after two raiders burst into the premises on Park Road in the city and threatened the staff and customers with a knife.

The exact details of how the customer was stabbed are still under investigation, but he was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital immediately after the raid where his injuries were described as “serious but not life-threatening”.

Both raiders escaped on foot with a sum of money after the robbery, which happened at 7.15pm yesterday evening.

During a follow up search of an apartment in Waterford city centre, two men in their 20's were arrested and detained at Tramore Garda station.

A sum of cash was recovered at the apartment.

Gardai in Waterford are appealing for witnesses to the robbery, and anyone who may have seen unusual or suspicious activity around the service station on Park Rd around 7pm is asked to contact Waterford Garda station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
