If you are looking to make a bit of extra cash while helping to shape Irish history, the Central Statistics Office (CSO) wants to hear from you.

It is hiring 5,100 census enumerators who can earn up to €3,200 for 10 weeks’ part-time work by distributing census forms to every home in the country.

Successful applicants will deliver and collect 2.2 million census forms between next February 28 and May 6, which will be used for vital census information to provide a snapshot of Irish life in 2022, according to Eileen Murphy, head of census administration at the CSO.

“A census enumerator is a job that really counts. Those who undertake this rewarding position are providing a valuable service to their communities by ensuring future policy decisions are made based on their community’s needs,” she said.

You are becoming a part of history by building, for future generations, the most comprehensive picture of life in Ireland in 2022.”

Each enumerator will work around 22 hours a week to distribute about 400 census forms in their local areas.

They can pick their own hours, but persistence is vital as “you may need to visit some homes multiple times to secure a response”, Ms Murphy said.

“Good weather in spring in Ireland is not guaranteed so you need to be ready for working outdoors in all weathers,” she added.

Applications can be made online from today at www.census.ie until December 3, or earlier if positions are filled, so applicants are advised to apply early.
