A country music cruise in California and paying off loans were in the plan of action for the staff of Stakelums Hardware Store, Thurles, Co Tipperary, after scooping €17m in the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday, June 5.

The syndicate arrived in Dublin yesterday to claim their winnings at Lotto HQ and all were still getting used to the idea of their new riches. It was Gerard Sammon who had the ticket in his possession when the group's luck changed after 25 years of entering the draw.

"I didn't sleep too well that night," a delighted Gerard said. "I hightailed it up here the next day to put the ticket into safe-keeping here in the National Lottery."
