Two men have been arrested in connection with the alleged assault of a couple (80s).

The couple returned to their home in Beaumont, Dublin on Wednesday at around 2pm after withdrawing money from a local bank that they intended to use for a family holiday.

As they reached the house the pair were approached by a man who allegedly attacked them and robbed their money.

They were not seriously injured but they are both badly bruised and traumatised after the incident.

Following a garda investigation, a car was stopped the following afternoon on the nearby Swords Road on Thursday at 12.40pm, where a man in his 30s and another in his 40s were arrested.

In a follow up search gardaí recovered a quantity of cash.

They are being held at Clontarf Garda Station under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act, 1984
