A man in his 30s has been arrested after gardai discovered two firearms and a quantity of ammunition in the rucksack he was carrying.

Gardaí  from the K District Drugs unit spotted a man acting suspiciously on Casement Drive in Finglas, Dublin at approximately 10.35pm on Thursday

The gardaí were on mobile armed patrol as part of Operation Hybrid.

They approached the male who fled into a number of gardens. He was observed discarding a rucksack by the gardai who were in pursuit.

The rucksack was recovered close by and gardaí discovered two firearms (two handguns) and a quantity of ammunition in the bag.

The man is currently being detained at Finglas Garda station under the provisions of section 30 Offences Against the State Act 1939
