Gardai arrest man in connection with serious assault that left 35-year old in critical condition

A man has been arrested by gardai investigating a serious assault in Monaghan that left a 35-year-old man in a critical condition in hospital.

According to gardai, the man was discovered on Main Street in Carrickmacross with a serious head injury at approximately 11.30pm on Saturday, January 20.

The man was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda and subsequently moved to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

A 34-year-old man was arrested by gardai on Sunday, January 21 in connection with the investigation and is currently detained at Carrickmacross Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.
