Four people arrested in relation to the shooting of a man in Lucan, west Dublin, earlier this week have been released without charge.

The 42-year-old was hit up to six times after being ambushed shortly before 2pm on Wednesday.

A hitman fired at least 10 shots through the front windscreen of the victim's SUV after ramming the vehicle.

The man was struck in the head, chest and arm, but despite being shot multiple times he managed to flee to a nearby property to raise the alarm.

He was later hospitalised and remains in hospital.

The four people who were detained yesterday were later released without charge. Investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious between 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday on the Old Bog Road in Kilcock, Co Kildare, to come forward.
