A YOUNG man who died after the van he was driving hit a bridge had recently gotten engaged.

Jonathan Faul, from Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan, died in the early hours of yesterday after losing control of his van which then hit the bridge.

The accident happened at Kilmeena, near Newport in Co Mayo, at around 1.45am.

Mr Faul, who was living in Newport, had recently moved in with his girlfriend.

He was alone in the van when the incident occurred.

He was rushed by ambulance to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, about 10 miles away, where he died a short time later.

Last night, his family were bringing his remains home to Carrickmacross for his funeral.

Last Wednesday, another 25-year-old, Brian Keane from Newport, was killed in Castlebar when his car hit a wall.
