Crash claims life of male passenger

A young man was killed in a crash in Co Louth at the weekend.

The victim was a passenger in a car with three of his friends when it went off a quiet country road at Grangebellew, 10km north of Drogheda, and hit a ditch at around 10.30pm on Saturday night.

Paramedics rushed the four -- two men and two women -- to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, but shortly after midnight yesterday the 21-year-old was pronounced dead.

Last night the other three occupants, including the female driver, who are all in their early 20s, were being treated for non life-threatening injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The road remained closed until around 3.30pm yesterday as gardai continued to examine the scene. Officers have asked anyone with information on the collision to contact Clogherhead station on 041 9822222, or ring the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
