Crane operators across Ireland will be going on a strike this week in a dispute over pay.

Trade union Unite, which represents over 90 per cent of Crane Operators in Ireland, announced today that crane operators will be engaging in a series of strike days in pursuit of pay rises.

The rises were originally proposed by the union in a draft collective agreement submitted to the Construction Industry Federation at the end of April.

Notice served on employers at the start of last week has now expired and the union expects the first of a series of rolling strike days to take place on Thursday, followed by a General Members’ Meeting on Friday which will decide on further actions over the coming weeks.

The move follows a failure by employers to engage meaningfully with the union and a ballot of Unite members in the sector which resulted in an overwhelming mandate for industrial action.
