Youth who slagged garda about his hair remanded for sentencing
A YOUTH, who verbally abused a garda at a courthouse and slagged him off about his hair, has been remanded on bail pending sentence.
The 17-year-old has pleaded guilty yesterday at the Children's Court to a breach of the peace charge and has also admitted other Public Order Act offences.
Garda Stephen Hyland told Judge Aeneas McCarthy that he had been on duty at the Children's Court in Smithfield, in north inner city Dublin on June 14 last.
“He came in with his mother, I greeted him and he told me 'fuck off you fag',” the garda told Judge McCarthy.
The court heard that the officer asked the teen if he had a problem to which he replied, “fuck off, state of your hair”.
When charged later under Section Six of the Public Order Act, the teenager replied, “I am sorry for slagging your hair, I was only joking.”
The youth, who has prior criminal convictions and was accompanied to his hearing by his mother, was remanded on bail for sentencing next month.
One of his other charges is for abusive and threatening behaviour, at Garda station in north Dublin, on April 22 last.
