Young model is awarded €25,000 for scar on foot
A 15-YEAR-OLD student who is registered to a national modelling agency has been awarded €25,000 damages for a "mildly disfiguring" scar on her foot.
It is thought that broken tiles under the waterline in a swimming pool had acted like a potato peeler when Shonagh Molloy kicked off from the wall while making a turn.
Counsel Elizabeth Enright told the Circuit Civil Court this had lacerated her right heel down to the tendons and she was rushed to to hospital where sutures were applied.
Ms Molloy, of Estuary Court, Swords, had been swimming on her 14th birthday, June 10, 2010 at Trinity Sports and Leisure Club in Donaghmede, Dublin, when the accident happened.
The court heard that Ms Molloy was registered to a modelling agency and was self-conscious about the inch-long scar. Doctors said it would constitute only a mildly disfiguring blemish. Her future on the catwalk would not be adversely affectedy.
Ms Enright said Trinity Sports & Leisure Club, trading as Contessa Insurance Limited, had not contested liability The Injuries Board had assessed damages at €25,000. The court approved the assessment.
