A young girl started screaming for her mother after a drunk and unknown man turned up at her front door, a court heard.

Ivans Zinkevics (49) did not live at the house in Swords and had no connection to the girl or her family.

Judge Dermot Dempsey ordered Zinkevics to complete 240 hours' community service in lieu of two months in prison.

The defendant, of Ashley Avenue in Swords, admitted before Swords District Court to a number of public order offences.

Garda Dongdong Zheng said Zinkevics started knocking at the front door of a house at Forest Court in River Valley shortly after 11pm on December 17, 2011.

Gda Zheng said the girl started screaming, and the defendant was told to go away.

She said Zinkevics was very drunk and was directed to leave the house.

He walked away but was shouting and acting aggressively.

Gda Zheng said the defendant started pushing and kicking when he was arrested by gardai.

Zinkevics admitted to a similar breach of the peace at Malahide Road in Swords on July 6.

Garda Stephen Harte said the defendant was very drunk and verbally abusive to the public.

Defence solicitor Fiona D'Arcy said Zinkevics is a married man with one child. He has a drink problem but is no longer drinking.

Ms D'Arcy also said the defendant is working for a fruit and vegetable company.
