Woman woke to find man sexually assaulting her, court hears

Sonya McLean

A UNIVERSITY student has told a rape trial that she woke up to find a man she had just met that night sexually assaulting her before he "proceeded to have sex with me".

The woman told the jury that she had earlier woken to find the man having sex with her friend who appeared to be asleep. She tried to wake her friend but couldn’t and she then fell back asleep herself.

It is the State’s case that the man had earlier given the women a sedative claiming it was ecstasy.

The accused man has pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to raping the woman and sexually assaulting her at his Dublin home on July 2, 2011.

He has also pleaded not guilty to a charge of raping her friend the same night.

The trial continues before Mr Justice Barry White and a jury of six men and six women.
