Woman on stab charge given bail
A WOMAN accused of the fatal stabbing of a man has been granted bail.
Maura Thornton (30), with an address at Upper Salthill, Galway, had been remanded in custody last week after she was charged with murdering Kevin Joyce (59), a Co Mayo native, at a Salthill apartment on July 31.
A post-mortem carried out on Mr Joyce's body revealed he had been stabbed several times.
Ms Thornton appeared at Dublin District Court yesterday where Judge Denis McLoughlin heard that bail had been granted to her at a sitting of the High Court in Cloverhill on Monday.
Judge McLoughlin remanded the defendant in custody with consent to bail to appear again at Dublin District Court on August 22.
Ms Thornton, wearing a black jacket, purple top and grey trousers, was not required to speak and remained silent during the brief hearing.
