Woman in court facing brother murder charge

Conor Kane

THE trial of a woman accused of murdering her brother is expected to take up to five days to complete, a court heard yesterday.

Caroline Brennan (19), right, of 14 Love Lane, Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny, is charged with murdering her brother Michael Brennan (22) at Barrack Street, Castlecomer, on December 30, 2008. Her case was mentioned at yesterday's opening day of the Central Criminal Court sessions in Waterford.

Michael O'Kelly, prosecuting, told Judge Paul Carney that the case will take about four or five days to hear.

Judge Carney put the case back until tomorrow and told a jury panel to return at that time when it may be possible to say when the trial can get under way.

Ms Brennan, who is on continuing bail, was in court yesterday for the call over of the court list but was not called upon to speak.

Michael Brennan died after being stabbed in the chest following a party.
